Photographer and Tester at Microlise. On the Day of London’s Terror Attacks

Today has been a horrendous day. I found out about the atrocity in London this afternoon. 4 people died as a car was driven at innocent bystanders and then crashed into the fence at Parliament Square, before the assailant jumped out of the car allegedly loaded with knives. The attack was perpetrated by an allegedly Islamist terrorist [it has been labelled a terrorist attack] on the afternoon of the 22nd March 2017.

I was stunned when I heard the news. As someone who has friends and acquaintances in London at the time, some working in and around the area, I was as concerned as everyone else today. It was clear that man was trying to get into the parliamentary walls and attacked and killed a policeman as he attempted it. It was only thanks to the swift actions of the emergency services and armed police that it wasn’t worse.

The parallels with Thomas Mair, killer of Jo Cox were undeniable in my mind. Mair shot and stabbed MP Jo Cox in an attack before the Brexit vote. Mair had fallen into some deranged mentality which led him to mow her down, shoot her and then stab her. An exact replica of the context around this killing. Lone wolf, car, knife. Mair had a gun.

Yet, somewhat as expected, Muslims and people of colour have been receiving a backlash from people on social media and somehow, yet again, I got embroiled in it.

Background

In a FB conversation, in which I communicated my anger and disgust about the situation, I brought up the Mair parallel to highlight the level of derangement that people can get into, since Mair was as much a fanatic about his cause as this guy was about his “Islam”. It’s a point of psychology. Sure enough, we got a totally irrational response from Mr Paul Heathcote.

Knows nothing about me, still, here we go again. “ Religious” and “Apologist”.

How did we get here?

I just highlighted one particular point. This wasn’t in any way an apologist position. Far from it. However, Paul of course, hasn’t read what I wrote correctly. It is worth checking what his background is. Doesn’t he like suits?

No, I guess he must have taken offence to that one.

Islamophobia

Doing a simple search of his timeline provides his anti-Islam position. He, unfortunately, doesn’t know how FB works, so left it open for others to post on his timeline. Figured he might need reminding, so dumped this as a reminder of the position he’s taken.

As well as apparently running his photography business on the side (Paul Heathcote Photography), he works at Microlise, a company based in Nottingham who deliver Fleet management solutions.

As with Max Lane a few weeks ago, I am certain Microlise are innocent of activity here, but Paul has fallen into the trap of thinking my ‘brown name’ might belong to “some muslim” who stones kids or kills people with cars etc. and has trouble parking? Maybe? I dunno what goes on in that head.

Apart from nationalism perhaps…

Or perhaps attacking Kuwait? Saddam Hussain did that once. Didn’t end well.

Or identifying as right wing? Maybe?

I think he may find he’s perfectly capable of getting himself sacked without any help from us. How about those allegations being true? Maybe? Been here before?

Even worse, looking at Microslise’s board, it’s not exactly the way you’d want to endear yourself to your employers.

Nadeem and the board, I can only apologise for stumbling across the information you may have needed before you appointed him this way.

Summary

I’m sure this will continue, and the reality is there are way way more Heathcotes out there. In any event, again, I’ve informed Microlise of this event, in case they might want to consider how this reflects on them, and deal with the issue appropriately for their brand.

Personally, I am 100% sure Microlise are innocent in this [EDIT: This morning, they have acknowledge receipt]. I consider Paul Heathcote’s behaviour unacceptable. I know what I’d do with him, given the need for harmonious working environments. But then again, I’m not really a leftie.

After the day he’s probably had. Don’t believe the reasoning for one minute. He’s got a lot to learn this guy, really does. Still, in order to move on [to the next f***er?] I’ll bank the apology unless I need to revoke it.
