Truth Doesn’t Give a Damn About Your Democracy

A post of twos, in sayings 4 — Should Remainers change narrative?

OK, so like, a bit of a rant.

There are 4 sayings I have and use regularly.

“Nobody has a right to an opinion in the presence of fact”

This saying implies a few things.

1) If a fact exists, nothing anyone says will change that truth. It only ever changes the PERCEPTION of that truth (by using lies, or if they don’t really know and convey that lack of knowledge to others who lack tat knowledge for example)

2) It doesn’t matter what we as humans think. It’ll f**k us up anyway regardless. We just have to look to natural disasters for us to be reminded about that.

Then there is

“Politics only exists due to [human] incompetence somewhere in any system”

Which itself, belies two things from our perspectives (note, naivety counts as incompetence):

1) The person using politics is incompetent. Or…
2) You are using politics to appease or control someone else who is incompetent.

Those incompetent don’t even know they’ve been played. Then there’s the obvious.

“Genocide and hate travel over the medium of stupid”

Which means two things:

1) Memetics is the propagation of information from person to person — viral marketing (read, facebook) is a type of this. Like electricity needs conductive substances, hate needs idiots.
2) You never discuss, share or post anything that isn’t important to you, your friends or family in some way. Nobody does.

Finally, there is the obvious.

“Democracy is nothing but a popularity contest”

Which speaks for itself.

Commentary

Democracies, including ours in the UK in particular, have two huge problems.

1) They directly select/choose who we wish to rule us as a government.
2) A government which has tentacles in everything is all encompassing

Which in turn leaves us with another big problem. We elect not just the government, but the filter (tinted glasses — whatever colour) of the world we see or get to see.

In a democracy we don’t control people’s actions, like they do in totalitarian or authoritarian regimes. We control people’s thoughts. It requires enough stupid people (with 30% malicious being sufficient in any system), unable to process or research information, unable to otherwise critique it, or see how selfishness creates losers, even in the winners, that the entire democratic system turns into a propagation of genocide and indeed, creates the opportunity to select to kill democracy itself. It’s how the Nazi’s of course, were elected. It’s how Saddam Hussain came to power (The Ba’ath party were democratically elected national-socialists before the “coup”). It is that paradox of tolerance. Tolerate intolerance and socialism leads to Nazism.

So the result of all of this, is a situation where governments become totalitarian regimes, controlling the essence of information and education, without the democracy itself being able to stop it, because a large enough proportion of the population cannot critique nor research the truth of the matters at hand and thus, aren’t equipped to stop the regime from gaining power and destroying its own population. Any government with a ministry of information is such a government.

Why does this matter?

Because nature and the truth don’t give a damn about lowly human experience. Only humans do. Truth exists without us. If the tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, the tree has fallen regardless. That doesn’t change whether we ask if it made a sound (philosophical question) or whether the tree fell (outright lie) or whether if we didn’t see it fall, did it actually fall? (get a life — this isn’t some solipsistic crap, which is all false anyway). We may find it hard to control what humans as a whole may think of that tree falling, and we may even worry about how it affects a democratic opinion of whether the tree has fallen. Yet, this is all totally and utterly pointless. The tree has fallen, whether we like it or not. The truth doesn’t give a damn what we think. Nobody has a right to an opinion in the presence of fact.

The same is true of the economic arguments against Brexit. They are the truths that are happening regardless of our opinion on whether they happen or not. The only people that care about whether the [public opinion of the] economic position is winning or losing the [democratic] consensus, are those who care about the democratic opinion. About the popularity contest. NOT those who care about the truth. As soon as we allow ourselves as a society to question or divert our focus from the realities of the truth, the more we enable the intolerance of truth, the tolerance of lies, the tolerance of hate and the less democratic we become. Period. Caring about democracy means caring about the truth.

Because politics only exists due to incompetence somewhere in the system. Even if we use the politics to handle the incompetence of the general public. We enable the lies that allow the genocide to happen.
