…buted to has strained economic growth and both have cast doubt on their open liberal Western ideas. It does not help that the current Islamic culture is closed to liberal ideals and the few “functioning” Muslim countries are basically repressive autocracies similar to Russia, N. Korea or Cuba. Yet, it’s interesting in mentioning these countries which are not Muslim, Islamophobes do not point…
Where’s that then? ;)
As it happens, a very large proportion of current Islamic culture is open to liberal ideals, considering Lebanese and Jordanian Muslims cover a pretty good overlap. Your point is correct when referencing a comparison with the 1950’s, predating the Islamic revolutions of the Persian and Afghan regions by some 20 years. There was little to distinguish those countries from the USA.
We can ‘t forget that some member of the set of allegedly “functioning” Muslim counties are an exact subset of the anti-liberal positions, especially Saudi Arabia, which spawned ISIS’ ideology and it’s somewhat simultaneously a shame that this is forgotten, and a convenience for the Trump administration that a segregation or “othering” of people can be made. It is this very inconvenient fact that parallels the EU in the UK’s Brexiteer’s eyes.
